More incentive to stock up...

...in a major way, if people at this website (for the National Inflation Association) are correct. Most recently, I received information in an e-mail that appears to have been taken from this article on predicted food prices, and the news isn't good. Please read it. Among other things, it talks about how much they expect food prices to go up, one example being that the price will be "$23.05 for a 24 oz loaf of wheat bread". Apparently, they also think that it is not only food prices that will go up--also predicted in said article is that "a plain white men's cotton t-shirt at Wal-Mart will cost $55.57". They think that we will see these kind of prices soon--from what they say, in 2011. Yeah, next year-- and it's already November.

I hope that prices won't go up like that, but what if they do? I don't know about you, but I still have a lot of preparation to do. Please do what you can to get the things you need into storage, if you are in the position to do so. If it's not prices like these, it may be something else, and it can't hurt to have some extra supplies on hand...

Although I like to be prepared, I have a hard time believing that things could get that bad that fast. Granted I have seen prices rise 50-100% on some items, prices like the ones in that article would cause massive riots. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess.

Kristen-I am hoping, hoping, hoping that this just never happens. I thought about not posting about it because it is so hard to believe that prices could go up like that, but I figured I would want to know and decide for myself if there was even the possibility of it happening, so I posted it. Thanks for your comment! (I am constantly amazed by your culinary feats over at your blog--I should comment more often, but they are truly a wow!)

Is feed grain safe for human consumption?

(excerpt .... please read the entire article.)
Is feed grain safe for human consumption? That depends on how it was processed and stored before reaching the consumer (you). I buy most of my wheat and corn from the local farmers co-op and having eaten this stuff for years, have never been made sick or obliviously killed from it’s ingestion.

Gas is once again over $3 a gallon & yet it isn't even Summer ... went to price out brown rice @ a resturant supply store yesterday. Manager gave me a few printouts from his supplier since apprently there are a few different types. Wasn't able to speak with him in depth but he did mention that the price was due to go up sharply.
Not really hard to believe, just like gas we all need food. The phrase over a barrel comes to mind.

Vlad--I don't have any information/knowledge on that, so thanks for the link!

Pelenaka--Prices for everything are getting scarier--I've heard it suggested that you keep at least a half tank of gas in your car, and rising prices seems like another good reason to do so. Thanks for sharing the info on impending rising prices--it's one thing to hear it as a possibility on the news, etc., and another to hear it from someone who deals with the food directly. Yeah, being over a barrel when it comes to necessities is not a pretty thing--thanks so much for your comment!
