Wish I had written those down...

I am talking about recipes that should be in my emergency notebook. Like the recipe, Extremely Easy Peanut Butter Fudge, that I found on one of the first blogs I found that talked regularly about food storage, and which had some of the best food storage recipes I found then, or since. The author of that blog went on to put up the food blog, Friday's Food Fancy. Regular readers may have noticed that there is not the usual colorful linkage in this paragraph that can be found in many of my posts.

That is because those blogs are no longer to be found, so there is nothing to link to.

Granted, peanut butter fudge would not be a food staple, but it would be an easy way to provide joy in an emergency situation if those you are responsible for like peanut butter and sugar, and dessert-y goodness. And who doesn't want to provide some desserty-goodness and joy in an emergency situation?

I write about this now because we really liked including the peanut butter fudge on our Christmas plates for neighbors. But among the other things that I wish I had written down in terms of food storage from the mentioned blog include the recipe on homemade noodles where you didn't need a noodle machine, just a knife....the food storage information on the sites was great.

So, just putting in a plug for keeping your emergency notebooks updated. You never know when you may need the information that is so plentiful on the internet, but then find yourself without power or the blog(s) no longer accessible. That's one of the reasons the time to prepare is now....

Just as an aside, I do remember the computer name of the author of the blogs, but didn't know if the author would want that name mentioned, so have not mentioned it. I did notice that the link no longer worked some time past, but being ever-hopeful, check it occasionally to see if it is back up. Ah, well. Hopefully, I will have learned my lesson on this and will either write out or print all emergency preparation information I think I may need earlier from now on...

Anyone else sending out anything food-storage friendly out on their neighbor plates this year? Gotta love food storage-friendly goodies...

What a bummer! I find old blogs that aren't updated anymore but finding out that a favorite is out of existence sounds terrible. I bookmark pages using SpringPadIt.com, but I need to start printing off the things I want to keep. Thanks for the reminder.

As someone that was in the Army and lived 2 months off my food storage I can tell you snacks and treats are necessary. It doesn't have to be hard you just plan for treats. Biscuit Mix + brown sugar+ spices (I like cinnamon and nutmeg) and you have coffee cake. Easy to do and done in under an hour. Tortilla chips make or buy corn tortillas cut into chip size soak over night in lime juice. Fry up the next day and you will have killer chips and you won't need to salt them. I am a salt fiend and I don't add salt to these chips.
Great for folks reducing their salt intake.
I have good selection of canned fruit but I'm adding some pie filling and pudding next year to go along with it.
I think the whole point of prepping is not to suffer for any reason. Can you live on rice and beans? Yes, but since you are preping ahead of time, Why would you want to?

I have a very easy peanut butter fudge recipe that came in a local electric company magazine.

1 pound white chocolate bark
1 cup peanut butter

Melt the bark and then mix in the peanut butter. Pour in a pan and put in the fridge until firm.

Super easy & delicious. My kids always want me to send it to their school parties.

Kristen--I sometimes just put down the links to recipes that I like/want to try, but hopefully I will learn from this--it is sad to see a blog disappear. Oh, andI do have more than one recipe from your blog actually in my emergency notebook, so thanks! :) And thanks for your comment!

Adventures in Self Reliance--Thanks for all the great ideas on the things to have in storage and about the chips--never thought about adding lime juice. I haven't tried to make corn tortillas, but now I do make flour ones--do you have a recipe for the corn ones?
There's nothing I can add to your thoughts about suffering and not having to as much by preparing ahead of time--thanks for your comment!

Stephanie--I love recipes like this--actually looked for white chocolate bark already, but no luck yet...thank you!

Here's a super easy recipe for fudge that you could easily keep the ingredients on hand for:

1 can sweetened condensed milk
3 c chocolate chips

Pour milk into medium sized sauce pan, add chocolate chips. Melt over very low heat (or a double boiler) until the chocolate chips are melted. Remove from heat, stir in 1 tsp of vanilla. Pour into a parchment paper lined pan. Place in fridge until set (about 4 hours). Remove from pan and cut into bite sized squares.

I made this for Christmas this year for ourselves and for giving. And what I like about these is that they aren't overly sweet like some fudge recipes can be. They are definitely a hit.

Vlad and Supermom--Thanks for the links--there are a lot of ideas there, Vlad! And you couldn't get much easier with that fudge recipe, Supermom! I'll have to try it out (and write it down... :) Thanks so much!

I guess I should start printing out everything that I have bookmarked. Just realized that about a quarter of what I have bookmarked no longer exists

Off Grid Survival--Sorry to hear that! I haven't checked everything that I have links for, so I may find that there are even more things that I won't be able to find, but I hope not...thanks for your comment!

I did a search on the name of the recipe, and found it here:

http://www.bendblogs.com/Friday_s_Food_Fancy/2008/12/19/Friday_s_Food_Fancy_%28Extremely_Easy_Peanut_Butter_Fudge_Recipe%29

I saved the page, because the internet is not permanent :)
